How to make the switch go smoothly.
The nutrition breast milk provides is only one component of nursing. The other
is the emotional comfort and closeness that it facilitates. As you phase out
breastfeeding, be sure to substitute other activities that allow you to snuggle,
such as reading stories or singing songs. If you're weaning to a bottle, feeding
sessions won't be the same, but they're still a way to cuddle and be close.
Try not to look at weaning as taking something away. Instead, view it as your
baby's moving on to the next developmental stage.
